Run Events (8:30 a.m. start):
• 8 under 1K
• 14 under 2.5K
• 15 and Over 5K
Run course and race details: The run course is ‘up and back’. All runners will head south from the starting line and run until they come to the appropriate ‘turn-around’ sign for their race. As such, the turn around signs will be placed at halfway point of the distance to be run.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ocean Events (8:30 a.m. start):
• 14 under 2K surfboard paddle
• Open 2K surfboard paddle
• Open 1K swim
• Open 2K kayak
Ocean race course and race details: Three bright-colored buoys will be placed outside the surf zone. One will be placed directly out from the starting line while the second and third buoys will be placed at the halfway points of the 1 and 2K distances, respectively. All paddlers and swimmers must go around the first buoy before proceeding south along the course. 1K swimmers and 2 K surfboard paddlers will turn around the second buoy while the 2K paddlers will turn around the third buoy. After making the turnaround, racers must go outside and around the first buoy before returning to shore. On shore will be a finish line. Swimmers and paddlers must finish their races by reaching the finish line on shore: kayakers leave their kayaks at the waters edge but surfboards must be carried across the finish line.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Combined ‘Kahuna’ Events
(8:30 a.m. start):
• 14 under 2K run + 2K surfboard paddle
• Open 5K run + 2K surfboard paddle
Kahuna events will be one continuous race. In other words, participants will immediately grab their surfboards at the end of the run and start the paddle leg.
NEW ‘The Throw-Down’ 4-person, 400-yard Relay Challenge
We are going to try out a new 400-yard/four person surf paddle relay this year. Each team member must paddle out and around the first turn buoy, which will be set about 50 yards off shore, then paddle or surf back to shore. Each team member must complete the 100 yard loop paddle, and run their board in to the next relay member, until all four members have completed the relay.
Relay winners will enjoy bragging rights, so organize your 4-person team and sign up Friday night or Saturday morning for the Throw-Down 400-Yard Relay Challenge to be held Saturday June 19, after lunch. Committee organizers reserve the right to handicap teams as we see fit. |
